In this book he provides a cogent, balanced, and objective evaluation of the strategy behind the Global War on Terror, avoiding the polemics so often found in such discussions. Tan not only considers the mistakes that have been made in response to the attacks of 9/11 - most obviously the ill-fated invasion of Iraq in 2003 - but he leaves little doubt that the invasion of Iraq, unlike the preceding invasion of Afghanistan, led to increases in terrorist activities and led to generalized discontent and doubts about the United States among Muslims. Tan goes further, however, and notes the improvements that made been made in US counterinsurgency strategies in efforts to deal with terrorism around the world. Finally, he looks to the future and notes what additional changes will be necessary to contain, but not defeat, the current terrorist threats. Nice, easy to read, but not too much details

Easy to read, small, light.
I'm in the first year of a Neuroscience PhD. and for the unit "biophysics" the first 7 chapters were really useful.
But if you want to more details, specially in electrical sinapsys (gap junction) this is not your book (only 4 pages to that subject).
Good book for introduction and medium level.

About the Author
Leonard Sax MD PhD graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at the age of 19, and then went on to the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned both a PhD in psychology, and an MD. He completed a 3-year residency in family practice in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. For 19 years, Dr. Sax was a practicing family physician in Maryland, just outside Washington DC. In 2005, Doubleday published his first book Why Gender Matters; an updated edition will be published in 2017. His second book,Boys Adrift, was published in 2007; an updated edition will be published in June 2016. His third book Girls on the Edge was published in 2010. His fourth book The Collapse of Parenting was published by Basic Books in December 2015 and became a New York Times bestseller. 
Dr. Sax has spoken on issues of child and adolescent development not only in the United States but also in Australia, Bermuda, Canada, England, Germany, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Scotland, Spain, and Switzerland. He has visited more than 380 schools since 2001. Dr. Sax now lives with his wife and daughter in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He returned to clinical practice, in Pennsylvania, in 2013. His favorite activities are hiking in the woods, and making music with his wife and daughter (he plays piano). A Must Read for Parents and Teachers

A must read for all parents, teachers and anyone else who work with kids.
This book cost us more than the cover price. After reading it, I made dramatic changes in my house, which were not cheap- but definitely worth it for my boys health. Stainless Steal Cups, Ruby Blue Bunny Body Wash, Stainless steel sandwich holder, etc. We also informed all grandfathers, uncles, and neighbors that our sons will be looking to them on how to be a man, so they better step up! :-)

This book expresses well the important social issue we face in the U.S. of far too many young boys becoming unmotivated at a young age (5-10) years old and developing into underachieving young men. The information is well-researched and compelling. This book needs to be read by enough caring adults in our nation to compel several actions that will ameliorate the problem.

Perfect Intermingling

Unhappily Ever After, where the plot's made up and the rules don't matter...ahaha. Three Kings. Three Queens. Ill pairings and unsettled unhappiness all around...Until Queen Cinderella decides to hatch a plot.

The Good: The satire and wit were in the spotlight, Clarke writing wonderfully between a casual narrative and an upright, proper story. I cringed a few times, expecting a bit of overwhelming crass from a few characters (who shall be left unnamed; I think you'll know them when you see them), and yet, I was relieved that the raunch stayed at bare minimum. And was still sort of funny.

The Bad: I can't really say. I don't remember anything 'bad' about it.

The Overall: If you want gritty, over-the-top action, a story that rushes you through the exposition, and one that takes itself far too seriously, you will be disappointed. Clarke understands the narrative of this story very well, and thus, the pacing and narrative takes itself about as seriously as the original Batman. However, Clarke does great at keeping all the terms and concepts inside of a Fairytale Land, even down to explaining why there's a TV in every palace. This book was great, and is worth the read.

A talent

I'm a big fan of Lucinda E Clarke. I have read several of her books and this is the main reason I was attracted to this book. Normally I am not a fan of comedy in books so that is probably my starting point. Humour is a very personal thing and I suspect my sense of humour has been warped with age. My sense is that this book will have a great deal of appeal to most but unfortunately I only got the edge of it which to be fair I believe would be a truly personal thing. I could be thrown off by the style I'm used to from Lucinda but whatever the reason it shouldn't take away too much from the book as it stands. It is funny, there is an intelligence here in often simple humour that shines through in the style and quality of the writing and if you enjoy humour in books generally, then I feel you will enjoy this particular book. The humour and style is quite British which as a neighbouring Irishman means I am quite familiar with it and if this is you cup of tea so to speak, then certainly Unhappily ever after will be a joy to you. Love Lucinda's work, pick this up and go find her more serious work too, she is a joy to behold.

A Fun Read

This is the kind of book to read if one is feeling down and blue, because it will pick up your spirits. It speculates what a hundred year marriage would be like between Cinderella and Prince Charming. Cinderella becomes an overweight glutton and wants a divorce. Intertwine other royals like Snow White, Prince Harold, Beauty and Prince Augustus,a slew of royal brats, and the story is an enjoyable and light read, full of wry humor and equally idiotic peasant characters. In the end, divorce is finally allowed in fantasyland and everyone lives happily ever after. Well written and descriptive.

About the Author
Mike Caveney is a writer, collector, professional magician, and the publisher of over 50 books on the theory, practice, and history of magic. His biographical works include Kellar’s Wonders (2003) with Bill Miesel, and Carter the Great (1995). An avid collector and performer for over four decades, he has appeared onstage or on TV in more than 20 countries.

Jim Steinmeyer is the author of many books on magic history and practice, including Los Angeles Times bestseller Hiding the Elephant (2004) and The Glorious Deception (2006). He has created deceptions featured by magicians such as Doug Henning, David Copperfield, and Siegfried and Roy, and critically acclaimed illusions for Broadway hits Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, and Into the Woods.

Ricky Jay, who has contributed the introduction to this book, is one of the world's great sleight of hand artists, and a distinguished actor, historian, and best-selling author. His Learned Pigs & Fireproof Women and Jay’s Journal of Anomalies were both New York Times "Notable Books of the Year," and he defined the terms of his art for The Cambridge Guide to American Theatre and Encyclopedia Britannica.

TASCHEN editor Noel Daniel graduated from Princeton University and studied in Berlin on a Fulbright Scholarship. Gorgeous art book

Beautiful art book containing wonderful poster images and history of magic.
Just to clarify some of the differences between this and the earlier book:
1. The original book had 650 pages, this edition has 544.
2. This book is also in 3 languages (English, French and German).

It still weighs around 14lbs. and is a large format art book. (Page height is nearly 15.5 inches). It's gorgeous, fairly heavy, and I'm happy to have it! Honestly, if I hadn't read about the earlier version of the book I would never guess this was "scaled down". It's still a very impressive book!

UPDATE: Re the differences between this and the larger edition, the following is from the editor of the book, Noel Daniel:

"The smaller version is meant to offer readers the chance to discover the wonderful world of magic for a great price. To be able to offer a smaller version of the first edition (the larger book) at a trade price, we did need to reduce its physical size, which meant also reducing its page count and therefore the image count. Even though the smaller version is reduced by ca. 150 images of the original 900, it is still a fantastic, illustrated overview of 500 years of magic. This material has never been brought together in this manner before, and much of it has never been published. I spent many, many months personally visiting archives and incredible private collections to select these images from the original 30,000 that I gathered. Both the large and smaller versions are important publishing events in the history of magic.

In terms of the images that I cut from the original larger size, of course, it was very hard, as all of the images mean a great deal to me. However, I tried to retain critical images that I felt readers would like to see, while cutting images that perhaps were repeated in some aspect or contained information that could be found in other images."

The real magic here is the $40 price tag

If magic is your passion this book will knock your socks off. Lots of bang for the buck here. This is a huge book, choc-full of wonderful, vintage posters and photos. The posters and advertising pieces are all presented in a super-sized format and all in brilliant color. Five hundred and forty-four pages, that's less than a penny a page. At forty bucks you could buy an extra copy to decorate a family room or office. The book is very attractively bound and comes in a sturdy, decorative slipcase and an eye-catching dust jacket (as shown). I must confess, I am not a magic aficionado. I am as fascinated as the next guy at seeing a lady cut in half and put back together or miles of colorful silk scarves appear out of a pants' pocket - but that's not what attracted me to this book. I collect advertising and graphic art and thought this would be a nice addition to my collection. I was not disappointed. Not every image is museum worthy but the few that aren't are the exception. The material on Houdini is particularly interesting and quite extensive. It will take me a while to finish reading this behemoth as the pictures are quite a distraction, but that's not a bad thing. I scratch my head every time I see one of these Taschen mega-books. How do they produce such quality at the prices they do?

Amazon held up shipment on this book for a while and I am not exactly sure why. My copy was not as tightly bound as some books I own in this oversize format but it otherwise seemed just fine. A previous comment suggested there was some missing material from this new edition (150 images out the original 900). I never saw the earlier edition and frankly, at my age, another 150 pages would render this book unliftable. I also happen to live right on top of the San Andreas Fault and am not real anxious to risk upsetting a very delicate equilibrium.

I don't know how many copies they printed of this book but I wouldn't waste too much time. If your waiting for a better deal - it ain't happening. (just my opinion)

If you've been thinking about getting this wonderful visual history of magic and couldn't afford the original $300 coffee table book, this every bit as good. Slightly smaller and roughly 75 pages shorter (mostly redundant images have been edited out), this is a stunning compendium that will still look great on your table or book case for under $50. With free shipping, this is a bargain!

Didn't have anything to do with cannabis that I saw

Good business plan outline

Cons -
It's a general business plan outline, something that you can look up online pretty easily.
Didn't see anything about cannabis while scrolling through the pages (not much information on it if any)

I just made a business plan for a college level class and this book wasn't able to teach me anything new that I hadn't been able to google, on making a generic business plan. It could be helpful for someone who doesn't know where to start. I didn't find it worth anything over a normal internet search.
